When friendship is not enough...

Image
Just putting it out there before you read further... I am not a counselor. Everything you read from this point onward has stemmed from my personal experience, learning from others around me and teachings from my Bible. I'm sure like me, you hear different slogans/sayings daily, even sometimes use them. One of such is the saying - "Marry your friend". Marriage counselors repeatedly sound it in the ears of singles everywhere you turn. As a young girl, I had seen first hand, the benefits of this popular phrase but, curious me just wouldn't leave it at that. I knew there had to be more to marriage than simply marrying one's friend. Why? Because, I know for a fact that friendships do fall apart. Not every friendship lasts forever. Some are for a season and they will fizzle out no matter how much you try to salvage its remains. They just die! One's responsibility is to recognize the friendships that have the potential to last a lifetime and nurture them. I...

Platforms

I have permission to share this insightful piece written by a dear brother in Christ. Be blessed saints! PLATFORMS If I be lifted up, I will draw all men to me (John 12;32). What have you been doing with that elevated position, choice place, thriving clime and sphere of influence? You have been divinely placed there for a purpose. To beam God's light, shine consistently, ceaselessly and excellently so that men would see and glorify the one who backs you (God, that is). David leveraged tendering the sheep to evolve as a brave, passionate, compassionate and accountable leader. If he had not learnt about using the platform as a shepherd, he would not have grown to face and defeat Goliath, lead Israel on several war fronts, rule admirably and become the man after God's heart. He espoused doggedness, focus, resilience, reverence for God, trust, servant-leadership, training by housing, training and developing miscreants to become skillful soldiers/valiant men. Abraham ...

Its Okay to say 'No'

The story of the young and old prophets in 1 Kings 13 is quite an intriguing one. In case you are not familiar with this story, here is a summary. There had been friction between Israel and the tribe of Judah such that each side of the divide had their leaders. Israel – Jeroboam; Judah – Rehoboam. Jeroboam had made altars in Bethel where he worshipped calves. Obviously, God was not happy with that. So, He sent a godly man from Judah to Jeroboam to deliver a message of what was to happen. This message was so authentic it came with a sign. Although the prophet’s name was not recorded, what we know is that he was young. Possibly vibrant, zealous and keen to serve the Lord (Perhaps this may remind you of yourself) . Just as the young prophet delivered the message, Jeroboam was about to have him arrested and possibly killed and so he stretched his hand out and straightaway, it withered. What a wonder! Not only that, but altars were rent in pieces, ashes poured from the altar. Talk a...

I’m one of those people who enjoy grocery shopping. I sometimes see it as my ‘me-time’ as I take that time to do some reflection. However, in the past couple of weeks, going to the stores has been like a chore that, for a lack of words I would say, I dread. You look in the aisles for an essential item, a very essential one at that, and your heart sinks. It's either empty or the ones available are ridiculously expensive. Oh, if I could get a dollar for every time I said to myself “No way am I buying this for THAT price!”. I remember on one of such occasions, I almost began to feel a sense of fear mixed with disbelief (disbelief directed at the panic buyers). I started to question if my decision to be “careful about nothing” was the right one. I just wasn’t sure if I was prepared enough for what was coming as speculated by the news. I had heard people recounting how well they had stocked up, from colleagues to friends and random people on the streets. There I was hoping that ...

Child-like faith

They say we learn every day and really, don’t we? In my early days as a mom, I learnt some pretty big lessons in my Christian walk. I remember one of the feeding sessions with the twins. There I was, feeding my son and he must have suckled for about 15 minutes. Then I noticed he wasn’t swallowing anymore. He had his lips well rounded, but I could tell he wasn’t feeding. And as if he had not shown his disinterest enough, he had a long, blank, i-can’t be-bothered stare on his face. Since I was new to motherhood and still learning how to read baby cues, I kept on trying to persuade him to have some more, but he wouldn’t budge. After several failed/frustrating attempts, I thought it would be a smart idea to show him who the boss was and so I tried to sit him in an attempt to change him to the other side. At that very instant, he burped, spilling some undigested milk on my shoulder. How smart of me, huh? Every mother knows that what followed wouldn't have been a pretty sight....

Outside the box

I have always loved ghost-writing here and there during my free time. The idea of writing using a pseudo name had me feeling “safe”, after all, I have never seen myself as a 'proper' writer. So, when the Lord led me to start writing here after pushing the idea away for SO LONG, and I mean really long, it was intimidating and exciting all at once. The trademark of the famous brand, Nike says, “Just Do It!” and really, why not? That’s enough motivation needed to get out of my comfort zone. As a mom of 3 kids under 3 (yea, I know - a poor attempt at rhymes), married, saved and washed by the blood of Christ, I have to admit that my Christian life has been challenged in different spheres and at different phases. So, have you ever stepped out of their comfort zone to do the things that you normally wouldn’t dare to do? If so, I would love to hear from you. For now, think on this verse from the Holy Scriptures… “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly abov...
